Review: Lola & the Boy Next Door
About the book:
Lola & the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins
Published by: Dutton Juvenile, December 2nd 2010
Genre: YA, contemporary, romance
Pages: 372 pages
Synopsis:
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion... she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit- the more sparkly, more fun, more wild- the better. And life is pretty close to perfect in Lola's world, especially with her hot rocker boyfriend. That is, until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood and unearth a past of hurt and anguish that Lola thought was long buried. When talented inventor Cricket steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.
My thoughts: Stephanie has done it again. Another feel good and cute contemporary that has you hooked from the beginning. And Cricket, CRICKET is SO FREAKING CUTE. Can I just have a guy like that as a neighbor ? No ? PLEASE ? He's smart and cute and he tries so hard (in a good way). I loved that Lola has 2 dads and alll the familly things. We don't see that a lot in contemporaries, it's like the main characters do not have parents. Lola's fashion sense was a great touch to the book. OH AND the fact that Anna and Étienne were a part of the book! YES!!! I think it was like closure for me for this story line because we always want a few other pages(uh hum chapters...) in contemporaries and we kind of had it in this book so we could see they were still together. It was just perfect. Just read it.
My rating: 5/5 stars
Sad parts: More anguish than sad.
Funny part: Sometimes
Romance: Slow building and CUTE and feel good.
Who should read that book: If you liked Anna and the French Kiss, read this book. For god's sake JUST READ IT.
